We saw this last weekend and it was very entertaining.
The 007 series goes the way of the Batman series and re-introduces the Bond character. This could have been titled "007 Begins".
Re-introducing him is a good idea since its a new actor in the role and it allows them to change/update the character some.
The new Bond is a more rugged, straight forward, less sofisticated, and a more physical type portayed very well by actor Daniel Craig.
Gone also are all the Bond gadgetry. There is some high tech stuff but its all real and beleiveable.
The cast, story and cinematography are all very good.
Overall, I would rate this as a 8 out of 10.

Well, first thing, hats off to the writers. This movie definitely had more depth than most Bond movies, and brought more of the human factor into the character itself. Craig did a very creditable job in the acting category, and carried off his dialogue with panache.

That being said, Craig is not Bond. I have been a fan of the Bond movies since I weas a kid, and have watched and re-watched the movies over and over again, and at the end of the day I have the same complaint about Craig that I did about Roger Moore. He's just not cutting it in the physical action category. Now, we all heard about Craig's whining about his fears of this and that, and of being hurt on set, but I went into the movie with an open mind, since this sort of stuff doesn't always translate to the screen. You can easily, and immediately see where he pulls back, waves floppy arms, or otherwise is coddling himself in the action sequences.Note the flapping arms or legs thrown out in some of the unarmed combat scenes. Also note that in the construction scene chase (which was awesome) that he always eschewed any of the stuff his quarry did. Of course, I might have too. That guy was like Jackie Chan on crack. Just amazing. Still, Craig basically did none of the stuff the guy he was chasing did, including some lame rolls and fence jumping.

All in all, it was still a really fun movie to watch. The ending was a little odd, but definitely worth a watch.

ok, i'll be the voice of dissent. i was expecting great things due to all of the good reviews, but have to say this one just didnt do it for me. i'm not sure if it was the new guy or the story line, but i gather a mixture of both.

i'm a bond purist: give me the gadgets, wit, obvious downfall of the bad guy and bond getting the babe in the end. add to that the ending which made one assume he 'got one of the bad guys' and it was just so so for me. grade B/B-

I've actually never sat through a James Bond movie from beginning to end until I saw this one. Casino Royale was great, definitely a top 5 movie of 2006 for me.
