Hey gang! I haven't been here in awhile, been taking a break from DVDs +I just don't have the money... Crying or Very sad

Anyway, did any of you pick up Vista for your system?

I'll probably just wait untill I get a new PC. This computer I have now is almost 3 years old...still can run everything fine. I think the only thing I need to upgrade is my motherboard, which is using AGP, no PCI-E. But with a new motherboard I have to find one that would be compatible with my processor....and if I'm upgrading my graphics card to a pci-e....might as well get a better video card, which most likely means I need an upgrade my power supply, mine is 300wt. Then I would want Vista 64, this is getting exspensive because I have an AMD64 processor.

I figure, why not just wait awhile and either buy a new PC with Vista, or just build one. Windows XP will still be compatible for a long time.

Anyone have it? What do you like/dislike? Pros? Cons? What do you think?

I ran Vista public preview and RC1 for a short while on my test system and got rid of it and
put XP back on it. I did not really care for Vista at all, not enough driver support at the time
and still not enough support yet. I've decided to keep XP for a long time at least until all of
the support and updates are no longer available for XP. I see no compelling reason to move
on to Vista at this time because it's not a very big improvement over XP at least not to me
anyway. I might re-consider Vista in a year or two or longer after at least SP1 or SP2 has
been released for it and most of the bugs have been worked out of it. Very Happy

Won't be uprading yet as in the UK it's twice the price of the States. £130 for the upgrade. I think I'll wait until I get a new PC, If its anything like XP there will be patches and fixes for the next 12 months anyway.

Like dellboy says, it's too dear here in the UK. Not that I can't afford it, it's just that I don't like being ripped off. So I guess I'll also wait for a while...

I Just picked up an oem home premium for £50:00 and it really does run like a dream. A few things i had to turn off for my sanity more than anything else, such as DEP and UAC but overall i love it looks like MS did it right this time well for me anyway.....can't see myself going back to xp thats for sure

I looked at it.... I have a copy of home premium right here that the company bought me to test out..... and to be honest, I'm not the least impressed. Seems to me they sre trying to hard to copy the apple system, and the new system is just too much of a hog of resources and space. Just doesn't seem like enough improvement over XP to warrant it.

I uninstalled and went back to XP....maybe I'm just to old for the change

Well, thanks for the input, guys.

One thing I'm wondering...will my games be compatible with Vista, and like what was said, drivers etc. etc. I'll be looking more into as a get closer to its purchase. It's seems like such a big move for some reason, I have too many concerns as of right now. Like most of you, though, I'll play the waiting game.

Why does it seem Apple is more stable than Microsoft/Windows. I always hear/read people praising Apple because it's less buggy and overall runs better than PCs. The only downside being compatiblity and price of software. Why is it that the quality product is the one thats lagging behind and not the other way around. It would only seem logical. Laughing

People are going both ways with Vista, I guess like anything else, some hate the product and some love it. Wink

Its not that I actually hate Vista so much as the fact that I hate the no driver support issues the most.
I also hate the fact a lot of older scanners, printers, etc.etc.etc. and programs will never have the full
support of Vista and a lot of people will be forced into having to buy new hardware and new programs if
they want to move on to Vista. I totally agree with blknight3 on it using up waaaaay to much resources
and space because on my test system it is running 2GB or RAM and with just Vista running with no other
open programs it was eating up 650 - 700 MB of RAM just setting there idling and doing nothing else. The
moment I uninstalled Vista and went back to XP the memory usage dropped back to normal 100 - 120 MB
with the system just setting there idling and I can open quite a few programs before the memory usage
even gets close to 650 - 700MB on XP. Wink

I'm with daripper on this one. Right now no support.... my daughter works in an AOL call center and Vista is driving them crazy....

But my biggest complaint is and will remain the amount of resources it is using up. I mean come on.. a gig of ram for an operating system?!?!?!?!?

The next op system they are working on is supposed to be brand new from the ground up.... not built on top of the others like they have been since 95. Or at least according to Gates it is. Target release date was supposed to be less than 5 years from this release..... He also saod it would be better, and less resource use. Guess we'll all see

I just got my Media Center linked up with my xbox 360 wirelessly after days of headaches,so I don't want to risk Vista messing up the connection.hehe..plus it never hurts to wait and see what the problems are with a new OS before upgrading.

I'm looking at purchasing a new PC and everything now seems to come with Vista - I don't like the idea that I'm being forced to accept a system that will not be compatible with my software, Scanner, Printers, Camera, etc. Besides, I want the joy of more memory and not have the system eat it up.

I was shocked to see using 600 megs of ram just sitting idel..! Is this something they're working on improving, will it improve at all. And what in the OS is using THAT MUCH ram! There has to be something you can turn off, right? I have 1 gig of ram...remember the days when that was a lot of ram... Rolling Eyes From the looks of it, and depending on what you use your pc for 2-3 gigs of ram is what you'll be needing for Vista.

We need an Apple revolution or something. Laughing

people kept saying that there would be smoother functionality, and that the biggest plus would be security. If you're already happy with the functionality of XP, aren't concerned about security and don't want to give up all the resources, and have to pay big bucks to do it, then why bother?

I keep hearing about hardware compatibility issues with Vista, so what is the problem here? Does anybody know? Do the manufacturers have to write Vista compatible drivers for all their hardware? Is that it?

You might want to read this article about Vista before getting excited about it.

DVDCA - That is a pretty depressing article, but very interesting!!

Looks like XP will be here for a long time yet, once this information gets more widely known.

I actually subscribe to Windows Action Pack, so I get all their main programs like Office, Exchange Server and many others including Vista, but I have yet to install it on any of my systems.

Until all the incompatibility issues are resolved, I wouldn't touch it!
